Scott's Thoughts 6/26/24
Good News Club will begin this fall!
It seems a little crazy that, halfway through the summer, we should be talking about the next school year, doesn't it? But the kids at SMES come back early this year! First day of school will be August 8, and we would like to have our first Good News Club meeting by September!
If you aren't familiar, Good News Club is an afterschool program in the school that intentionally teaches children about Jesus and declares the Gospel. It is a really incredible opportunity to make an eternal impact in the lives of children and families in our community. We had a number of folks already express interest in being a part, and there is always room for more! If you are interested in serving, even if you can only go once a month, let me know and I'll add you to our information loop!
If you had already expressed interest in GNC, be on the lookout for text messages and emails as we get closer! There will be a few steps to be approved as a volunteer, but we will help you navigate them.
I am so excited about this opportunity! I can't wait to see what God does with this!
Last week's text: John 17
Jesus has prayed for us. We share in the love the Trinity has for one another. A brief trip into John 17 has served for me as such an incredible reminder of God's grace. He is so good to us, in so many ways that we overlook. Jesus' prayer reminds us of the humility of Christ who Paul describes as "though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men." Even before we were born, Jesus was serving us - what a concept! I pray this series has been encouraging for you as well!
This week's text: Exodus 20:1-3
This week, we head back into the book of Exodus to begin studying the law. At the forefront of this law is the 10 commandments - a text with which most of us are at least familiar. Each week for the next 10 weeks, we will be discussing each commandment individually. My hope is that we will learn a bit more about how to both read and enjoy the Old Testament Law, looking to learn about the nature and character of God as we do! I am so excited about this series! Can't wait for Sunday!
Songs this week:
Arise My Soul, Arise
And Can it Be
The Love of God
I Love You, Lord
See you Sunday!
